IMG_3607Today I  was planning to make a quick pepper steak stir-fry but a school nurse phone call turned into one unexpected trip to the doctor.  My plans for today changed and so did my menu.  My quick pepper steak turned into a crock pot version of steak alla pizzaiola ( a pizzaiolo is a pizza maker).

Before I darted out to the doctor I quickly sautéed my meat, peppers, onions and other ingredients.  Normally, when cooking this dish I would either cook it slow on the stove top or pop into the oven with some potatoes.  I decided to brown the ingredients and throw them in my slow cooker since I didn’t know how long I would be out.

My mid afternoon twist just ended with a trip to the local pharmacy …

..and so I’m glad I cooked like the “pizzaiola”  instead of having to order from one (not that there is anything wrong with pizza – just would’ve hated to see the ingredients go to waste!)
