Holiday Gifting Made Easy for your Favorite Home-Chef
Do you struggle to find the perfect gift for the foodie in your life? I am usually on the receiving end of that struggle. As a self proclaimed, home chef and professional cook, my family always says what a challenge it is shopping for me. My husband often jokes “just tell me what you want”. But where’s the fun in that? Right?!
Since nobody ever knows what to get me, I thought it would be fun to help everyone out there navigate this with a curated, Cheftini inspired, list of at-home cook essentials. I think this list will delight any culinary enthusiast. Hopefully someone in my family sees this too!
1. Home Delivery Meal Kit Subscription
If you know a home-chef that loves to cook who doesn’t have the time to grocery shop or is simply tired of trying to figure out what’s for dinner after a long day, give the gift of a Home Delivery Meal Kit Subscription. There are so many options to choose from but the two listed below are in my top 5:
- Blue Apron – Blue Apron is the OG of meal delivery subscription service. It is definitely for those with a more refined pallet and strong skills in the kitchen. Think gourmet meals. With Blue Apron you can pick the meals that you prefer for the week and can customize for dietary restrictions, etc.. If you know someone looking for a pre planned culinary adventure at home then this is the meal kit service for them. I would say it is more suitable for busy professionals that really enjoy cooking, newlyweds, and/or empty nesters.
- Home Chef – Home Chef is a top rated meal kit delivery service that is highly customizable and a good option for both individuals and families. The recipes are geared more towards the average cook and has more options for those with dietary restrictions. Home Chef also stands out as a top choice for it’s quick prep meal options, 15 minute meals, oven ready and microwavable meals, as well as. The price point is also noted for being more affordable for those on a budget like young families and college grads.
2. Enameled Cast Iron Cookware
Every home-cook enthusiast needs at least a few pieces of timeless cookware. From stainless steel pots to hex clad pans, the most coveted piece of all cookware to have is a Le Creuset.
- Le Creuset: Every Serious cook needs at least one piece of Le Creuset. Le Creuset is premium quality French cookware that have been around since 1925. Most notably known for their Dutch Oven, Le Creuset is a high end piece of enameled cast iron cookware. Home cooks love it’s timeless style, durability, versatility and even heat distribution.
The downside to this cookware is the price tag. Don’t let that deter you though, I consider it to be a a long term investment for any home cook.
If it’s within your budget this would be an incredible gift to give to your favorite foodie. I would literally cry tears of joy if someone gave me a piece of Le Creuset (preferably an off white dutch oven to match my existing piece hint – hint – wink – wink )
3. Small Kitchen Appliances
If you do not know, you know now: I am the queen of kitchen gadgets and small appliances. I love them all, but if I had to narrow it down to the best gifts to give (or receive – ahem) a food processor (large or small) and a high-speed blender would be at the top of the list.
- Food Processor: Every serious cook needs a food processor. Cuisinart is the quintessential food processor brand. It is affordable, incredibly powerful, durable and versatile. From chopping, slicing and grating, nothing compares to a good quality food processor.
- High Powered Blender: Another must have tool for every home chef is a high powered blender. They are also very durable and perform many tasks. From smoothies to soups and even chopping nuts, a blender of this capacity is the gift that keeps on giving. There are so many brands to to choose from these days, some of the best known brands include Vitamix and Blendtec.
4. Outdoor Appliances
- Flattop Griddle: I recently treated my self to an outdoor flat top griddle and I used it on repeat this summer. With an outdoor griddle you can prepare any meal of the day. From scrambled eggs to sautéed veggies, grilled cheese and of course burgers, steaks and hot dogs the outdoor griddle can literally do it ALL! It is this home chef’s absolute favorite item to use.
I have the Blackstone Griddle but there is also Weber and Traegar to name a few others. If your favorite foodie already has a flat top griddle another option would be to gift some popular accessories.
5. Cutting Boards
Every home chef needs some form of a cutting board. Whether made of silicone or wood, a hard cutting surface for various foods is a must have in the kitchen.
- Butcher Block Cutting Board: While I own various types of cutting boards, nothing compares to the durability, aesthetic and functionality of a thick wood cutting board. Usually made from hardwoods, these cutting boards are knife friendly, sustainable and easy to maintain. Nothing looks more beautiful on a counter top than a butcher block cutting board. It is what chef dreams are made of!
I hope you enjoyed reading this list as much as I enjoyed creating it. Whether it’s a gourmet meal kit subscription or a must have cooking appliance, these gift ideas are sure to elevate your favorite home-cooks culinary experience.
