It’s been awhile since I posted a family favorite recipe. Here is a great one that you can make in 15 minutes or less.

Try this simple Italian classic

Bistecca “steak” Pizzaiola.

This thin steak is first seared and then quickly stewed in tomatoes and herbs. This is a delicious dish and perfect for those quick weeknight meals.

For this dish you’ll need thin steaks that are about 1/4″ thick (like an eye round steak or thin sirloin steak) about 4-5 oz each.  Then you’ll need  peeled/diced/stewed Italian tomatoes, olive oil, garlic and fresh herbs, that’s it.

For the tomatoes, I used up the remainder of my Kirkland Italian Stewed Tomatoes. I inherited these tomatoes a while back and have been trying to find recipes to use them up (you can read my post on Italian Garden Pork Chops for more on this story).  These tomatoes are perfect for this dish because they have hints of oregano and a little green pepper.  I’m not really a fan of flavored tomatoes but these ended up being a good buy and I was able to use them in many dishes.  TIP: You could also use diced or peeled  tomatoes.  If you choose to use plain Italian tomatoes just remember to add some oregano.

If you make this dish be sure to have plenty of crusty Italian bread. If you’re like my boys you can also make a sandwich. Here’s the recipe – hope you like it!
